Ashburton Solar Farm - 7 MW
The Ashburton Solar Farm is a community-scale solar farm of 7 MW capacity, connected to EA Networks. The solar farm covers eight hectares of an existing 16-hectare rural lifestyle farm in Willowby, south of Ashburton. The landowner grazes sheep under the solar farm array and the solar farm lease supplements income from the farm.
The site contains thousands of solar panels that track the movement of the sun across the day and produces clean electrical energy for the needs of the local district, including powering irrigation pumps through the summer months.
Lightyears built and developed the entire 7 MW farm, and own and operate 1 MW of the total, with RCR Green owning the remainder.
